Sketches & More

These are a few of my sketches; my first few tries with facial proportions and portraits, as well as my progression within the learning process.

I started with practicing specific elements of the face, and then moved on to facial proportions in general.

My first try using charcoal! In the beginning, I wasn't sure what the correct technique was, so I started using the charcoal stick similar to how I would use a pencil. However, I quickly realized that in order to get a loose, sketchy depiction of the characters I was referencing, I needed to handle the stick with a much more flexible hand, using loose motions while focusing on the larger shapes rather than the details. In the end, the figures ended up having a ghost-like feel to them.

To put my newly learnt skills into use, I experimented with some full-scale portraits!
